One sentence changed my entire life, so let me give it to you: there is a difference between loving people and believing their outcomes are your responsibility.
Caring keeps your heart open. Carrying breaks your back. For most of my life I could not tell them apart. I thought if I truly loved someone, I had to absorb their stress, solve their problems, and hold their consequences as if they were mine. I called it devotion. It was slowly emptying me.
Lovey, love was never meant to cost you yourself. Boundaries are not the opposite of love. Boundaries are how love lasts. A boundary simply says, I will care for you, and I will not carry what is yours to carry. That is not coldness. That is wisdom.
I used to think saying no made me less loving. Now I know it made me more sustainable, more present, and more free. The women around me did not need me to break myself. They needed me whole.
Even Scripture models it. Rebuke, then forgive. Confront in love, then release. You were never asked to erase yourself so others could stay comfortable.
If you have confused caring with carrying, let’s find out exactly where. Seven minutes, and it will feel like a mirror held up in love.
